I agree with the other responses except I think at the point you need your BOB, you aren't really looking for comfort. The weight needs to be manageable, not necessarily comfortable. You still need to have all your survival materials, but at that point, comfortable means something different than it does now.
My BOB, a sling-pack, weighs around seven pounds. This is exclusive of water (canteen) and bedding.
I agree with mesarich. the weight where you feel most comfortable carrying. Include your essentials and remember...the thing you need the most (fresh water) also wieghs the most.
It would probably vary from person to person. For me ten pounds would be all I wanted to carry for any distance.
