Poor technique... try gracieuniversity.com if you want to learn how to defend yourself without actually taking martial arts classes. "Handshake takedown" is similar to a hip throw but will hurt your back if you try it like this, instead bend at the knees, step in front, straighten your legs, lifting him off the ground, then bend at the waist to drop him on the ground.
